If, as a professional events planner or someone who has just been thrown into the deep end to organise your next conference, you have any doubts about the many great things that can be done in-between work sessions when in Sandton, perhaps this article can persuade you otherwise.
As someone who has experienced the excitement of conferencing in this great business hub on many occasions, I would like to suggest just some of the great action distractions when conferencing in Sandton. There are so many in fact that this will just be the first of 2 articles on the subject:
The Sandton Hub
International shopping with all the finest brands the world has to offer can be done at Sandton City, one of the country’s largest and most comprehensive centres and the very up-market Hyde park shopping centre just a stone’s throw away. Sandton is South Africa’s Dubai and a shopper’s paradise!
Once again all the finest foods from all over the World are on offer in some of South Africa’s finest eateries. If in fact you are fortunate enough to have chosen one of the 2 excellent Faircity Hotels in Sandton as your conference venue, the cuisine within the establishments themselves is great!
There are a myriad of up-market and plain ‘funky’ coffee shops, entertainment venues and hotspots where you can either hold business meetings, or simply relax between sessions. Once again Falstaff and Quartermain of the Faircity Hotels group have their own superb little bistros for casual meetings and simple cuisine.
All within an easy driving distance are many excellent attractions – both places of interest and just sheer fun and relaxation. Here are only a few of them:
Monte Casino – A great place in the Tuscan style with a range of entertainment, gambling and places to experience international and local cuisine. ‘Monte Casino’ is part of the ‘Fourways’ area – also a good place to meet with the business people of the wealthy Northern suburbs!
Apartheid Museum – One cannot visit this establishment of the preservation and education of South Africa’s darkest era, without being moved. Learn more about the atrocities of the Apartheid Regime that divided the nation for more than 48 years – I highly recommend this one.
Constitutional Hill – In a similar vein, the site of Johannesburg’s notorious Old Fort Prison Complex is where thousands of ordinary people were brutally punished before the dawn of democracy in 1994.
The Cradle of Humankind – Not all our history is dark though and this World Heritage Site offers a wonderful experience for local and international tourists. It is a rich source of information for scientists and researchers, which presents opportunities for economic development and job creation!
The Lesedi Cultural Village – This is an exciting showcase of African culture where you are introduced to tribal art and crafts, customary dancing rituals, a very rich history and the tribal legends of four African villages
The Pilanesberg Game Reserve – Home to all the revered ‘Big 5’ (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo), this excellent National Park is the nearest to Johannesburg and an absolute must do for international delegates. If you really can’t make it there, the local Rhino and Lion Park offers the opportunity to see the endangered Rhino and feeding and photo ops with Lions!
I hope these action distractions when conferencing in Sandton have whet your appetite to come and conference in this exciting business hub. If it has, remember that the Faircity group offer two of the finest Hotel and conference venues in Sandton which are:
Faircity Falstaff – A gorgeous, intimate and elegant venue close to the Sandton Convention Centre, major highways, shopping centres and the Gautrain station.
Faircity Quatermain – Located in the same area, Faircity Quatermain is a stately and sophisticated hotel that exudes old English-style charm.
